Puppy and newborn: help!

I need the opinions of mamas out there who got puppies in the same year as delivering! I know we are crazy, but we have always wanted a puppy and are thinking about getting one 5-6 months before baby comes into world. By the way, it would be our first baby (and my first puppy but my husband has grown up with dogs his whole life).

Are we completely nuts? Is this doable? Would it be better to get the puppy after the baby is born (when he/she is about 6 months)?

I really want to do this, but am starting to have second thoughts about how crazy we are.
