I was taught you wash anything you buy before wearing it but not in the shower. That doesn't make sense

A lot of Americans don’t do it. I’m American but my family is from the West Indies (Caribbean) so I’ve been taught to do it since I was a kid. If you have a Caribbean background than you probably do this.
