Mixed race question - are mixed, biracial, people allowed to identify as each of their races?

I’m going off a comment I read today on Instagram; there was quite a bit of folks that agreed. The gist of it being that If your mixed race, or biracial, THAT is all you are. As in that’s your race. People felt very strongly about it and it made me curious.

I.e if your Spanish/white, your not Spanish nor white; if your black/Spanish,again, you aren’t black and you’re not Spanish, etc and so on with any race that you’re mixed with.

I do not agree, but was wondering everyone’s take on it. If you do agree can you explain WHY?

if this isn’t allowed or offensive to anyone I’ll delete but this has been on my mind since I read it (I’ve got biracial children).
