How To Know If You Have An Umbilical Hernia?

I’m currently 30+3 and my innie belly button has been turning inside out (which I don’t really like 😩) but the past few days I’ve noticed a slight pain/soreness around it, and when I press just to the left of it it’s really sore. How do you know if you’re getting an umbilical hernia? And is there anything to do about it?

You’re not. That happens when you’re pregnant. It will most likely go back after birth. It’s not a hernia .

My umbilical hernia (NOT during pregnancy) was actually slightly above my actual belly button. Mine never hurt. Sometimes I could push it back in and it would stay for a few hours, then eventually I couldn’t. It can be confirmed via sonogram as that’s how they diagnosed mine. They can see if there is a hole in the muscles. If you’re concerned, just ask your doc. Again, mine was not during pregnancy but the process would be similar to diagnose and fix regardless.

I doubt it’s an umbilical hernia, they’re pretty rare for adults to get them it’s most common in newborns-2 year olds because of the fact that their bodies are closing the hole to which they were attached to their umbilical cord. It’s quite common in pregnancy for people who have innies have them pop out due to the extra pressure. I’m guessing it can also cause the soreness because it’s not normal for your belly button to go that way, same as when your hair grows in a direction it’s not supposed to and it’s painful. You can always double check with your doctor, but my personal non medical advice is that it’s not a hernia.

I had exactly what you described and I just got mine officially diagnosed. Unfortunately all you can do is either live with it  (if your belly goes down quite a lot after birth it may not bother you) or surgery, which from what I'm researching is fairly easy.

I had your exact symptoms, they got more intense. I saw  my OB who confirmed I did have an umbilical hernia. Mine got pretty severe since I put off surgery for two years after the birth, my OB said sometimes they correct themselves after birth. After I Had it fixed its completely normal now.
