All the people I know wear it on the left hand ring finger. This is because most of the time a promise ring means promising to get married some day or being together for a very very long time.

I had a promise ring in high school and wore it on my left ring finger. We broke up a year into college (thank goodness!), and I didn’t wear a ring on that finger for 8 years when my husband proposed.
