Can you sleep when the room is totally dark?

I need to room to be totally dark or I can't sleep. If there's any light at all, I've developed a strategy to strategically cover my eyes with the blanket while keeping my nose and mouth uncovered, and I'll go to sleep like that

If it's a place I know I'm good if not I need lights or someone

I'm weird. If I'm alone I want a little light, can't sleep in total darkness. If however my partner or sister is sleeping over I want complete darkness (we share the bed, partner isnt here fulltime and sister visits while he's gone)
