Only 1 friend actually cares about me... Could you give some advice please

I’m not trying to make my image better but, I’m a decently popular and nice person. I put so much effort into friendships mainly because I’m an only child, my father is a narcissistic psychopath and my mother is always busy. So I seek companionship in my friends because that’s what they are for! I gift meaningful presents, always am up for a chat, and wear my heart on my sleeve, yet only 1 person puts the same amount of effort into our friendship. Do I just hang around the wrong people? How can I find caring friends? Or should I not put so much effort in? Help me please! If I sound arrogant sorry but I’m trying to just tell the fucking truth!
