Should i use insurance for IVF?

They pay $15,000 max and it’s 80/20 after I pay my $2700 deductible. Self pay is $8500 but using insurance they will charge the regular amounts. Idk what to do. This is what the finance lady said “That is correct, the self-pay packages are discounted because patient will have to pay out of pocket. The amounts billed to insurance are the full amount of the services rendered.”

You didn’t mention what a round of regular price IVF was, but say it’s $15,000....
You pay deductible of $2700 and the balance is $12,300. 20% of that is $2460. So your first round of IVF costs $5,160.
If the round doesn’t work, your second round will cost $3,000. Using the insurance (and this price, which might not be right), you can basically get two rounds for what you would pay out of pocket.

You’d have to actually sit down and do all the math, but I would use the insurance. Insurance has contracted rates with them so even if they BILL the insurance a certain amount, your insurance doesn’t actually pay that amount. 
Is it $15k for the IVF procedures and then meds are separate? Or is it $15k for procedures and meds? Because meds are a huge expense for IVF and sometimes you do get better prices out of pocket for them.

I would use insurance. Just for the fact that it would take care of my entire deductible amount in one swoop and you wouldn’t have to worry about it for the rest of the year.
