Its not about "letting" your SO text,
Restricting contact with any gender is very controlling and slightly showing insecurities, I believe its all about context,
If dating then there should be a mutual understanding and respect for each other so contact with opposite sex is comfortable, no sexting, flirting etc etc,

I wouldn't be okay with them randomly meeting some girl and talking all the time. That would be very out of character for my SO. But if it's a somewhat mutual friend and the conversation isn't flirty or excessive, that's fine.
