Do you have to go to Church to be a "true" believer?

I am asking Christians only, in your minds do you have to attend church to be a true Christian/believer of Jesus Christ and God? I ask because I do not attend church but I believe in God and would definitely say I am a Christian but someone recently said I was not showing that to be true because if I did, I  would go to church. My opinion is that I don't like what churches have become and I feel I can serve my god from anywhere.

It depends. Believing in God and praying does make you a believer. But just remember that in order to strengthen your relationship with Christ you have to grow. And growing will come from teachings (church services) and bible studies. You don't HAVE to attend a church to believe but just know that there is so much to learn as a Christian and the only way to learn is to read the bible and listen to teachings. Good luck! I really do hope you someday find a church that you love and can grow from! When you find the right one it is an amazing experience and it is hard to see how a Christian life was before church. 😃

You can believe in God, truely and not attend church. However, you are sinning. To believe that you do not need help, guidance, to be truely faithful is Pride. Your Pride is telling you you know better then all others, even those who have devoted their lives to God. But pride tells you, you know better then them. You do not, I do not, know better then others. So I go to church to learn, to be taught how to follow faithfully. I am a sinner, I need my church to help me be better.

if you put any effort into it you could find one. Laziness is a sin too.

It is not pride if you don't go to a church because you can't find one that follows the scriptures..

Just from my understanding of reading the bible, the first and most important commandment is to love God with all your heart, mind, and soul. So if that's the case, why wouldn't we want to learn more about him every chance we get? In my experience, people who say they don't go to church because some of them are corrupt or too business-like, are just looking for an excuse to do what they want when they should be at church. Not saying you are, just most people I've known who've said that. Also, not everyone who goes to church every chance they get is living right. So someone being there doesnt make them a Christian. But I do believe if we love God as much as we should it should be a privilege to get to worship Him and learn about His word. I don't mean anything offensive. Hope it doesn't come off that way.

I think the only people who can judge your relationship with God is YOU and GOD. If he wanted you in church every Sunday I'm sure he would let you know

The purpose of church is to have people support and guide you. You can technically have church anywhere. I agree that it is hard to find a good church. Maybe you could find a few people and have bible study at your house? That way you can have people to study and bounce things off of 😊

You don't have to go to church to be a Christian, but it is dangerous not to do so. People are like sheep, which easily get led astray. We need the security of the flock and a shepherd. Here are some verses to consider as well.

If God is everywhere and I can talk to him through prayer, why do I need to be in a specific place at a specific time? I have spent plae ty of time in a church. Enough to know my worship makes me feel better than a church. Do what feels right inside of you.
