Surgical abortion experience

I had a surgical abortion yesterday at 7 weeks. We got to the clinic around 8:45 and luckily we were able to park in a connected ramp so we didn’t have to deal with the protesters. We got in and I started filling out the paperwork. I was called back for labs which included a finger poke, weight check and blood pressure. Back to the waiting room I went.

Then I had an ultrasound to make sure my dating was correct and that the fetus was in my uterus. More waiting.

I then spoke with a counselor about my decision, the process and future birth control. I was given nausea meds, ibuprofen and an antibiotic. Then more waiting.

Then I took care of the financial aspect. Luckily my stage accepts medical assistance so I only had to pay my $3 copay. After that I waited and waited.

It was finally my turn and went back into the examination room. I got undressed from the waist down. A nurse put in my IV because I had opted for the light sedation. Then the doctor came in, administered the meds and did the procedure. It was very quick! Then they helped me off the table and get dressed.

I went to the recovery room, used a heating pad, drank some water and ate a snack. A nurse checked my blood pressure and then I was able to go.

We left at about 2:30. It was a long day of about 6 hours but I felt supported the whole way.

I just wanted to type out my experience for anyone looking into this option. I have had 2 miscarriages in the past so I knew I didn’t want to do the medical abortion.

I am having very light bleeding and minimal cramping today.

Overall I’d say I am very happy with my choice.
