Is it ok for two people with depression to date?

I have been talking to this guy and he is really sweet and all. But we both have depression. We are just friends for now because that is what i want. But I'm pretty sure things will go father.

One day I got this text message from this guy I thought was a total jerk ( over text thats what it seemed ) and he asked if I would go to the beach with him after his gym time and I was in the middle of some of the worst depression I’ve ever gone through, and I had no body that night. Usually I could call my best friend or someone but they were busy so I agreed to go. I jumped in the shower, left with my hair soaked, barely any makeup on. I’ve never hung out with this guy but I was happy to get out the house for a beach run.  
That guy is now my fiancé. And to learn he was in the exact same boat I was in. He was needing someone to be around, so he asked me. I was hoping to find someone to go out with that night to help me forget. It’s like it all happened for a reason. We both were in a dark place but we lifted each other . Neither one of us knew this till a few months later and we just kept growing and helping each other . So it’s totally fine to date someone with depression. It could be a huge benefit.

Honestly it might be beneficial for you two. Because you both understand each other. Understand about random moods. Bad days. They can help try to get you out of that funk. Only downside i can think of is if both of you have trust issues or one does and they get depressed and bring you down when npthing is going on. Meaning no reason to have that trust issue. I hope ot all works out for you with what ever you chosse.

Some people (like me) have major depressive disorder and live with depression for years/most of our lives.
Me and my boyfriend both suffer from depression. Him from the military, and me from the military and a bunch of other stuff. I also have avoidant personality disorder, PTSD, and anxiety because of my past. 
Mental health is a battle every. Day. 
Sometimes, after a year, you get over it. 
Sometimes, you battle it nearly everyday of your life. 
The first time we dated, for 9 months during 2017, after some time, we had to call it off. I had been hospitalized. Twice, in one month for suicide attempts. The second time I had almost done it. 
We broke up because we were so worried of the other persons well being that we neglected ourselves. I needed to take care of myself and figure out some things, and so did he. But we still cared for eachother. And we stood friends. 
When I was medically discharged from the military this past summer of 2018 I came home to our hometown, we hung out more, and he and I were in much better places as individuals. We started dating again.
Now that weve taken the time to work on ourselves he doesnt close himself off from me so much like he used to, and has finally been able to open up enough to finally tell me he loves me. 
We both love eachother very much, and still battle our demons, but we can understand each other and our struggles in ways that others really cant. Because of this, we both constantly lift eachother up.
We are moving in together right now, and we plan on staying together forever.
Sometimes, because of mental health, you might need to take a step back and focus on yourself. And because of this you may not be up for a relationship. And that's ok.
On the flipside some of us will live with mental health problems forever. And while we may need time to learn to live with it, at the end, once we're ready, we can definitely have a relationship with someone special.
One of the advantages of both of us having depression is that he and I can spot the symptoms and combat it head on. For example, just yesterday I noticed him being kinda lethargic and staying in bed, and I sat with him and talked to him and motivated him to go out with some friends of ours. And today he told me it helped. 
Hes been the most understanding and helpful person when it comes to my mental illness because he knows and sees exactly what it does to me, and when it comes to depression experiences it himself. And this has been immensely helpful for both of us because when one of us is down the other knows exactly what to do the lift the other up. 
Of all the relationships I've been in this has definitely been the best one. 
I've been in love with this man since we were sophomores in high school and now were both 24. He had a hard time coming to terms with his feelings for me because of some of the trauma he went through, but true love, real love will fight through all of that. And for us, it did.
If you and this other person are meant to be, you can work through it too. The most important thing is to work through all of your problems together.

I think maybe it can connect y’all on a really different level. Maybe since y’all are both suffering from the same disease y’all can help each other through it.

I think it depends on who y’all are. I know I personally dated someone a couple years ago and we both had similar mental health problems and they greatly affected the success of our relationship. We made each others problems worse. But I know it can work.
