Disposable Diapers or Cloth Diapers????

Question

Hey my June Mommies, I am battling my husband on the issue of cloth diapers vs disposable ones. We have three other children and we did disposable diapers, which was expensive. I want to do cloth because it would be cheaper in the long run and help with potty training ( so I have read). Any opinions???

We cloth diaper and I’m happy with our choice. The change in our utility bills was not even noticeable. We save a ton of money and I love a cute fluffy diaper butt. I also enjoy sewing my own custom diapers, so it’s a part of my hobby as well haha. 
It’s definitely not for everyone though - you have to clean poop off the diapers prior to washing them and that isn’t something everyone wants to be doing. 
I’m not overly convinced about the potty training argument, though I’ve heard it before. My 2.5 year old does not care when his diaper is wet because the inner materials help keep him feeling dry even if the diaper is soaked. 
Despite me saying those things I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to try! We are going to be cloth diapering our second as well 😊

There are some articles that really break it down, but depending on what kind you use the cost can end up being pretty close when you factor in detergents, increased utility use, etc.
Since this is our first child and we plan on another, reusing them really justifies the upfront cost. But if you’re done, it may not.
Ive never heard of it helping with potty training, since many now are very similar to disposables, but it could.

I was in my early 20s when my step mother cloth diapered both of my siblings, and I watched and helped her with the process both times! I loved it so much that I will be cloth diapering my first. The cost difference is crazy, so much cheaper to cloth diaper. And the patterns are just to die for😍 I also plan to mostly cloth diaper, but other unexpected situations I will keep some disposables around just in case!

I used cloth for the first 2 and thankfully it’s the one thing I kept so I’ll be using them again. Husband seemed hesitant but I’m not willling to spend so much money on diapers if I have perfectly good ones. I just bought some cheap ones from Walmart too that have good reviews so I’m excited!! I use cloth wipes too, big of water on them and easy peasy! I did use disposables when we’d be out all day though.

We used cheap Gerber prefolds with cheap plastic pull-up type covers with our second. It cost $60 to diaper him from birth to 21 months when he potty trained. It was pretty miserable though, so we barely used cloth with #3. This time I’m investing in pocket diapers with absorbent inserts. We’re also getting a kitchen sprayer and attaching it to the toilet which I think is going to make a HUGE difference. Swishing prefolds in the toilet is NOT something I’m willing to do again. I’ve spent right at $100, and we should have all the diapers we need. Alvas are pretty cheap for pocket diapers, and they come is super cute designs.

I want to do cloth for many reasons, cost is only a tiny factor for me though. We have very spendy water bills so I anticipate the costs will be similar (in fact, depending on how much it increases our water bill, we might use a laundry service if it’s the same or similar). We’re taking a cloth diaper class next Monday. See if there’s one in your area, YouTube has a lot of great videos too. You can buy good quality used cloth diapers and if maintained well, they have a fairly good resale value. 
I’ve heard the same about potty training faster. Be aware you’ll also have to change your baby sooner... every 1-2 hours generally. Even with disposables, I was never one to let them sit in a wet diaper but I know many people that let the diaper fill up more before they change them— can’t do that with cloth.
