Well, let's see. Religion is a huge cause of war and conflict, and also wastes so much time, blinds people from the truth, and causes them to be accepting of terrible things. So yes, I think society would have progressed.

Well I mean in ancient times I'm pretty sure it was extraterrestrial space travelers who displayed themselves as God's and created religion.. so I think we would be okay without it. We can learn what's right and what's wrong by how things go. And I think we always could tell morally right from wrong. Yeah I think it could have.

I think we would've progressed differently. There has always been questions about the universe around us, and some turn to science to find answers and others take it with faith and that's what eventually turns into religion. Religion provides stories for answers when we can't figure out the answers. The first humans had no way of figuring out that the sun WOULD come back everyday - they didn't have telescopes or even words to communicate what they were experiencing, so they took it on faith and "prayed" that the next morning the sun would still be there. I'm agnostic, but I still understand that religion can be beneficial for a lot of people and not all religions are bad. I think it says something about humanity that we've been forming religions or faiths since we since we started forming communities. Could we have advanced much faster without killing our scientists in the Roman Inquisition and other points in history? Yes. But scientists we're also born in religions and become scientists when they start questioning what they've been told. Galileo was a pious Roman Catholic - he believed in God. But he's hailed as the father of modern science/physics and the scientific method.

I feel like religion helps teaches people to become good people because many religions have good morals. Many also however have many restrictions and specific lines to follow which have held people back in history. Almost every time period has had a religion because many fear what comes after life. Some accept nothing, some need something, and others need an entire plan. It’s all personal preference and how they were raised. So, going back to the point to where if society would have still progressed, I believe it would have (nothing is for certain tho of course), but in a different way. Many in the medieval times trusted in god and followed his ways to lead them, but it also led to corruption. I think we could have avoided a lot of fatal mistakes, but that just means other non religious mistakes would have happened.
