Should there be laws/consequences for people who smoking around children?

I get enraged every time I see someone smoking around their children, in cars and while their kids are near them. Clearly if they do it in public they also do it on their house too! My thing is this: if you're choosing to harm yourself by smoking, fine! But it is absolutely disgusting to subject innocent children to it. I feel like it's near child abuse honestly.

No -- the government regulates our bodies and homes enough already, and allowing them this opens the door for much more regulation. 
   
Like, should there also be *legal* consequences for parents who take their obese kids to McDonalds? Should there be *legal* consequences for parents who let their kids stay up late and then are sleepy all day at school? How about parents who allow their kids to play with plastic toys that contain toxins known to affect the hormonal development of growing kids? How about parents who let their kids be glued to TVs and other electronics constantly? I mean, these all have serious health consequences -- why shouldn't we just let the government regulate these parenting behaviors, too?

I already want to hit people for smoking in front of me. I don't want to breathe in that junk. It is YOUR choice it is NOT MINE. Don't force second hand smoke on me just because you have an addiction.

In San Antonio tx where I live come Oct 1 its going to be illegal to smoke with anyone under the age if 18 in the car. We already have a smoking ban in all our restaurants clubs bars really anywhere. We are getting there

You think that because my husband smokes outside of our co-op and when he's outside of our truck that I allow him to smoke in our house? Don't assume shit you don't know.

In South Africa it's against the law to smoke in a car with kids in the car. The restaurants also have enclosed smoking areas and kids aren't  allowed in there.

Well then you better make sure parents don't drink while caring for their children either! Wow that blew your mind right how dare I. And you can't say that people smoke around their children at home if you see them smoking outside while their children are there too. I smoked since I was 13 stopped from the moment I found out I was pregnant and started up again when he was 1 im now 34 and have quit 18 months but I didn't smoke in my home thank you very much I smoked outside. But its OK for people to drink and watch their children I disagree. Kids fall and get hurt or choke anything you can't get in a car and take them to the hospital if you do you endangering your life your child's my life and my child's. Think about that for a while. You don't see anyone trying to stop that

If they're going to ban smoking in a car with minors, then they need to make a law against women who smoke while pregnant. I don't think it's anyones dam business. Why not make smoking illegal all together.  Minors can't buy or smoke them, but adults can't smoke around them? The fumes from a gas pump can be dangerous, fumes from exhaust can be dangerous. Second hand smoke is not the only thing harmful to people. Smokers are not allowed to smoke with in 20ft of a building, but what those smokers do in their own car and home, does not concern the rest of the world. What are they going to do, pull over every person smoking in a car and check for kids? We can buy cigarettes and alcohol while in the company of a minor, but can't smoke around minors. Dumb af if you ask me.
