Fibromyalgia and IUD

Holly

Has anyone with Fibromyalgia gotten an IUD? I have Fibromyalgia and Psoriatic Arthritis and am trying to figure out birth control. I tried the mini pill (I can only use progesterone bc because of the topimax I take for my migraines), but was really emotional and would get a lot of the symptoms of pregnancy (nausea, bloated, etc). Right now I am just using the app to avoid sex when ovulating (which is obviously risky—I considered doing full on FAM, but I have an awful memory and don’t know how consistent I would be). I had my doctor order a diaphragm and am waiting for it to get in, but am getting a lot of slack because it’s so old fashioned and not as effective. All that to say, I am considering getting a progesterone IUD like Mirena, because the side effects are supposed to be less (and have heard the copper iud can be painful), but have started reading about it and hear the insertion is painful and that you can have cramps for 2-6 months after! I was already concerned about having a device in me because my body is so sensitive and over reacts to everything. I am worried about how painful it will be. My husband also doesn’t like the idea of me doing something extra to my body (i had to even convince him into the diaphragm, so i know the iud would take some convincing). How has it been for everyone else? Any advice for birth control options? Thanks!!
