Finally feeling normal

Alexia

I had my IUD Insertion on the 18th December - it’s almost been a month and I’m having my first period now.

Since insertion I had nonstop bleeding of an irregular nature (heavy for an hour, super light the rest of the day, nothing for half the day - then heavy for 2mins, then light again .... etc. Etc) and bad cramps - but never consistent and never heavy like a period.

I didn’t feel clear or like myself and using a panty liner everyday can be very very VERY taxing. (If you’re in a relationship - I don’t know how you do it)

Now my period has arrived - I can tell it’s my period because I am consistently bleeding, the cramps feel familiar but not unbearable like before and my mind is much clearer and I am generally happier.

I am unsure when the period will end but pre-IUD my periods would last 7-8 days with cramps so bad I would Medicate myself significantly for two solid days otherwise the cramps were unbearable. Once I had dealt with the pain, I would have to deal with the speed in which the blood was leaving my body, pads and jumbo tampons just for the commute to work, then another change, then an hour and another change... etc.

Now that my mood is lighter and happier, my appetite back to normal - I can focus on working out and work and friends. I am hoping the bleeding eventually stops because it can make you feel quite self conscious. How are other people experiencing it? No one has yet explained theirs like mine??? 🤔
