Baby Shower / Gender Reveal

We're planning to reveal the gender of our baby at my baby shower. Initially I didn't want a gender reveal but once we started to announce we're expecting we had so many family members excited for the gender reveal. We find out the gender in the middle of New England winter season so the only option is the have the party inside. Our idea is to announce the gender at the baby shower in May. We were thinking about having a board with all of old wives tales and then come up with a cute way to announce.

The second reason is I've had so many friends have babies recently and they barely received any items from their registry. They just received clothes. Dont get me wrong I love clothes but not everyone has the same taste or sense to buy season/month appropriate clothing.

Does anyone think this plan will cut down on clothes?
