Finally my scary birth story !

Andrea

I never made it to 35 weeks of my pregnancy... It was three days before I had an upcoming maternity shoot and I was super excited since this is my first baby and the maternity photos are just beautiful and so sentimental . My fiancé and I were patiently waiting on November 17 to come. No rush. Still had so much to prep , physically and mentally. Prior to everything I was recently being monitored for possible pre eclampsia and had to monitor blood pressure and watch what I was eating around 32 weeks. I started around 32 having horrible headaches that progressed daily to eventually a full blown migraine. I had been in and out of the ER and also to the L&d ward for monitoring. At 34 weeks I went in to my Obgyn for my normal weekly checkups and long story short I walked out of the office(sobbing) because my doctor said she had to deliver my baby that same day! Being almost two months from giving birth I still was very scared and worried as to what my 34 weeker would be like (breathing problems , jaundice , heart issues. Sick lungs Etc) and I knew the NICU time was in his near future. That same day I was admitted to l&D and given cervadil to induce labor. Fast forward 17 hours of this painful induction as well as my horrible migraine (I was on magnesium) and my body still showed no signs of opening. No soften cervix just a really sore vag. My doctor ordered another dose of cervadil and five hours later checked and stlll nothing !!!! At this point they nurses kept coming into my room and checking the monitors on my son because his heart rate was everywhere. Eventually his heart rate was dropping very low and my doctor had to break the news of an emergency c-section. I had no choice. Obviously none of this was ideal or my birth plan. But giving birth vaginally was not an option not safe for us. I never thought how scary surgery was before. This was my first surgery ever! In the OR , when my son was delivered they only gave me ten seconds with him and then rushed him to the NICU as he couldn’t breathe well and other things. I didn’t see my son for 29 hours due to being on magnesium and unable to walk from surgery . The pain for myself was horrible ! I’m sure many people can agree. Nearly 30 hours later I got to go see him in the NICU and was very scary seeing him on all the wires and he was on CPAP of 8 and the sounds of the monitors I can easily recall were dreadful. I must say the nurses, doctors and therapist were truly amazing in taking care of my 34 weeker!!! By the grace of God he was only there for 15 days when they expected to be there for over a month due to his very sick lungs and high billy Ruben. Nevertheless, I learned a lot about gratitude and selflessness from these beautiful people that are there to help our sick preemie babies and I’m very grateful that my son is now home and is growing well! He is now in the 24th percentile and is thriving! He just grew out of his newborn clothes and newborn diapers!!!

I hope all of you expecting mommies the best and pray for you to have a smooth and safe delivery!
