Electric bill over 1000$?!

My fiancée just got our electric bill.. every month it’s around 150$.. this month it’s 1200$. We haven’t done anything different.. why did this happen? What can we do? Has this happened to anyone else and was a mistake?

It definitely sounds like a mistake. Sometimes they just read the meter wrong. Or if for some reason they couldn’t get to your meter (like it’s in your back yard and your gate is locked), they do an “estimated bill.” But their estimates are based on everyone’s total usage, not your previous bills. This happened to me once and my estimated bill was over $300 when my normal bill was usually around $30.

You need to call them and ask what's going on. Last bill we recieved was $800 due to them estimating our last 2 bills previously, we never use that much power. Either way they made us pay when in reality they should be coming to check the meter every month, hopefully you dont have to.

That’s insane! I’d have a heart attack. Definitely call bc there’s no way. I have all my TVs going and lights on basically 24/7 and my bill is like $280

There’s no way it could even be that much, so you definitely should call! Sounds like an accidental actual zero. But I’ve had 6 LED lights, fans, a portable AC unit, my tv and PlayStation on basically 24/7, plus normal lights and things like that, and my bill never went over $300 and something. Unless your entire neighborhood was on your bill, it’s all wrong!

Is the heaters on high are lights on all day is there a night light there areany things that can cause it also call your electric and ask for the bill and what utages was to make it so high

That definitely sounds fishy. I’d be calling them and asking them why it’s so much. Maybe it’s only supposed to be $120 and they added an extra 0? Not sure but I wouldn’t pay anything until they tell you what’s going on.
