Gallstones... no insurance?

Woke up in horrible pain the other morning, radiating through my entire abdomen and chest and tons of pressure. I went to the ER, and it’s gallstones. They want me to make an appointment with a surgeon, but I don’t have any insurance... what options do I have? I am now living in constant pain after every meal and can’t really afford a payment plan right now, either.. we are strapped.

At this point if you're really in that much pain, sxhedule an apt with the surgeon, have the surgery and worry about the cost later. You're not going to be able to get ahead any way if you're unable to work due to the horrific pain. Also, see if you qualify for state funded insurance /Medicaid.

Most hospitals have financial aid so to speak, for low income uninsured patients. Contact their billing dept first and ask.

I had my gall bladder out.... I would get the surgery and worry about paying later. You can get on a payment plan for next to nothing monthly and as long as you pay that they can’t hurt your credit or take you to collections. Ending up in the hospital emergenty because a Gall stone shoots into your pancreas or ruptures will be a lot worse than a payment plan in the end.

I don’t mean to be rude or anything but how does insurance work where you’re from ? In Australia we have Medicare and any important surgeries are covered straight away. Don’t they have something like that where you’re from ? 
Sorry if I sound stupid I just dont know how it works... it seems insane to me that you have to sit there in pain and discomfort when you need a surgery that will help your health.
