Leg cramp/spasms?

I just woke up out of a dead sleep with the absolute worst muscle spasm in my calf. I started screaming for hubby and I couldn’t stop crying. He ran and got me an ice pack and help me get up out of bed. I’ve had foot cramps before but never anything like this. 
Anyone else dealt with muscle spasms in their last few weeks? What, if anything, can I do to prevent them?

Make sure you’re staying hydrated. Also, the best advice I got that works every time for me is to flex your ankle so your toes are pointing up right when you feel it happening. It always stops the cramping immediately for me

This happened to me earlier in my pregnancy when I switched from the prenatal I was taking to a gummy. The difference between the two pills were magnesium and iron were missing from the gummy. Not sure why it always happened in the middle of the night (usually while I was stretching) but it happened often until I switched back to the prenatal with iron and magnesium.

Yup. Dr said to take magnesium. It cancels out the calcium that can cause cramps. Seems to be working so far 👍🏼

I literally had the exact same thing happen to me about 6 weeks ago. Woke up out of a dead sleep to the worst Charlie horse I’ve ever felt in my entire life in my calf muscle. Felt like I’d been shot! Hydration, bananas, and marjoram can all help prevent them. Marjoram oil is a natural antispomadic(anti spasm), so I rubbed that on my calf, drank lots of water, got potassium from bananas. To help heal it I just heated/iced it, and stretched it. Took a couple days till the soreness went away. Haven’t had one since 🤞🏻

Eat more potassium. I had them with my last pregnancy, and a banana a day seems to keep them away.
