Deliver in Hospital without NICU?

So I live in the middle of nowhere... the closest hospital to deliver at is 1.5 hours away and does not have a NICU. Since I’m having twins...didi... I transferred my care to a hospital with a NICU even farther away, 2 hours, in another state.
I’m 29 weeks now with no complications (knock on wood). I have come to find the NICU hospital does not take my insurance since it’s in another state and I will have to pay $1500 for the delivery.   
Would anyone risk delivering at a hospital without a NICU? If they needed NICU care the babies would be transported .  Not sure it’s worth the risk... but we also don’t have an extra $1500 laying around...

I am in a similar situation. My hospital is 3.5 hours away. At 30 weeks I am going to live in that city until babies come. We have a hospital in my town but it doesn't have a NICU. So, if my babies come early and they most likely will, I would have to be flown to the hospital that is 3.5 hours away anyway. That flight can cost $30-50,000+. I would call and ask your close hospital what they would do if your twins need NICU care. You may end up paying even more than $1500 if they have a policy of shipping you out.

If that was me I wouldn't risk it. I would make whatever arrangements to be closer to the hospital when the time came.

If you have no complications I would just go back to the original hospital for delivery. If any issues arise then you can have them transported to the other hospital.

I delivered my twins in the hospital without a NICU. The closest hospital with one was an hour away. You just have to trust your instincts if you feel like you're going to deliver early or not having a easy time with the pregnancy do what you feel is right. I drive 2 hours for every appt to see a specialist and go to the hospital with nicu. I say whatever is best for you your babies!

We’re fortunate to have several hospitals near us. Originally my dr delivered at a hospital that did not have a nicu so we switched doctors specifically for that reason. I didn’t want the risk of them having to be transported. Plus, I may not be able to go with them if I had a c-section for example, which was another thing that bothered me. If my twins need a nicu I want it to be down the hall not miles away. I understand $1500 is a lot but god forbid they need it, I think timing is everything. Good luck mama!

I would go to my normal hospital and if they need to go to an NICU then they probably would be flown there because either way it goes if u had to pay something u will u know by if going to another hospital and they out of state u pay and by staying at your hospital and they need an NICU then u will pay I believe for them to go somewhere else . But check the fees and prices on both ends u know good luck and congrads on the twins 🎊🎊

I had a perfect pregnancy, super healthy and everything and I went into labor at 34w. I didn’t even feel it! Went for a check up and I was dilated. They had to stay 15 days in NICU.. one of the babies needed assistance breathing.
