Epidural question

I have a question for those of you who already have kids and had epidural during your birth. I’ve read somewhere that they basically stop this anesthesia from working right before you have to push because you need to have control over the situation and the pushing process. Is it true? I was so hoping that the epidural works until you actually hold your baby and that the pushing is done with epidural. I am scared now 😱
