Baptism-Catholic question
Hi,
All my family is Catholic, I want to baptize my son. But I have a question what happens if the godparents are not married in Catholic Church?
My partner’s family are all Christians, his brother in law (his sister’s husband) loves my baby and keeps asking if they can be the godpay. At first I didn’t wanted to because I know they are not Catholics but they keep insisting and my partner already said yes (he’s not Catholic either) and I just feel like for them this doesn’t mean anything and for me this means alot.
There’s a church in LA that they don’t ask for alot of requirements just child’s birth certificate, parents and godparents picture ID and the donation. They do said in their website that godparents need to be Catholic and married on Catholic Church but I know they don’t ask for proof.
My question is, if we choose them as godparents does this make my baby’s baptism not count?
I mean we (well me since I’m the one taking this serious) are lying to God because I’m not following the godparents requirements.
Ughh idk if is just me overthinking but like I said this is important to me.
