Instead of always telling girls "don't get raped" we should be telling guys "don't rape". Instead of teaching a girl to cover up because "boys will be boys" we should teach guys to respect women... Whatever she is wearing.

Not only do I think we should tell our boys to treat girls with respect, but i also think we should teach our girls to treat girls with respect. Having a girl tell a girl that she was asking for it because of what she was wearing is just as horrible as hearing it from the kind of drunk college boy pinning you against the wall, taking what you're not offering.

Not only that, but our boys should be taught to respect other boys! Men can and are being raped! It is a real problem! And they're not only being raped by other men, so we need to teach our girls to respect men as well. Contrary to popular belief, men are not always in the mood, sex does matter to them, and a boner does not always mean "I want sex".

And regardless of the gender of the child I may or may not have; I will teach them how to defend themselves, how to get out of the situation, how to proceed if the were unable to escape. Because as much as I believe we should teach everyone to get consent from everyone else, I can't guarantee a safe world for my baby.

I am in the middle. Yes boys should be taught not to rape, but we also teach people not to murder and it happens. Women should be taught "rape safety" and men should be taught not to rape.

As women, we do have a responsibility to protect ourselves and make smart decisions. If you are at a bar, don't get blasted and go home with a stranger. Have a plan in place. Just because rape is wrong doesn't mean we shouldn't protect ourselves.

(And vice versa for opposite genders)

The why don't they dress like they "respect themselves" argument is so problematic.  If a woman is limiting her dress because of what they perceive as puritanical societal norms, they aren't respecting themself, they are respecting those values imposed. A woman who truly respects herself, will wear what she wants to wear because she respects her ability to make decisions that impact her.

I take this to mean we try to stomp out rape culture. The victim, regardless of sex or gender, is NEVER to blame.
