What is your view on spanking kids

Question

Do you believe in spanking kids? Why or why not? 
If you don’t spank your kids, what are other discipline method you have used?
If you do spank then do you explain why the child got the spanking? Also how hard do you spank them ? (Some parents go overboard with how hard they swing whatever object)  lastly do you use a belt , shoe, tree branch, or hand? 
I’m asking cause I see it getting debate about so I’m curious to you ladies thoughts?

Certain discipline methods don’t work for certain children. With that being said, I don’t see an issue with spankings if done correctly because there’s a difference between spanking your child and beating/abusing your child. There’s always going to be a pro/con to every method out there along with “studies” saying why we shouldn’t do this or that due to “issues” it may cause later on. Just my opinion and I’m not looking for any subsequent dialogue.

I don't agree with it whether it be by hand or an object. I got ass whooping with belts, I would never do that to another human, let alone my child. They shouldn't have to be scared of me or crying out in pain for me to be getting my point across.

I think spanking is necessary for some children who don't listen but there is a huge difference in a beating and a hand to the ass to get your point across.

Every child is different. Spanking is a “you’ve been disciplined and told at least twice for this and warned a spanking would happen” no more than 3 swats. In my house it’s a “we’re no longer playing about this issue” type things. My oldest son won’t stop until the spanking. He’s a true boundary pusher. My youngest generally only needs correcting once on something and he will stop. The only situation where they get immediate spanking is when they do something truly dangerous and they need to remember it. I have 2 boys and they learn very differently. We lean toward other punishments or “games” as they are called. (Do dumb things get dumb punishments) for instance we will tear up their rooms if they are fighting over silly things like who gets to play with what or are beating each other up. We make them put it all back together as a team. And then we talk about it. If they disrespect me or my SO they do push ups or hold a piece of paper in front of them until they do as we ask without complaining no matter how much they don’t want to. It sounds insane and harsh but I’ve seen a massive improvement in how they treat us (me specifically) and they adore my SO and I both. We always end the night on a high note. 
Yes, we spank but it’s not often or as necessary anymore and my boys are so well rounded and happy at home. More so than we’ve ever been (been a single mom for years and it showed in their behavior)

I think it’s pretty stupid to “teach” a child to not misbehave by using a thing that we don’t want them to do.
“Don’t hit people so I’ll hit you for you to learn it’s not ok”

Timeouts work better then anything for my 2 year old. He will hit you back if you hit him. Smacked his hand from an outlet and he started smacking mine for any little thing. Funny now not funny in the moment.

I haven’t ever had to or felt I had to with any of the kids I worked with or my own. I’ve found that discipline such as: time out, restriction of privileges, etc. has worked wonders. I got spanked once as a kid, didn’t leave a lasting impression.

I’d rather not spank but in rare instances I have like when my toddler who’s almost 2 hit my 9 month old so hard in the head with a toy I thought she was having a seizure, it was horrible. My toddler knows not to hit her she’s gotten scolded and put in the pack n play to play alone if she can’t be nice. I only used my hand bopped her butt twice, comforted my 9 mo old. Then after everyone had calmed down I took my toddler in the other room and had a talk with her about why we don’t hit and why she got a spanking, made her give her sister a kiss on the head since she doesn’t say much yet. I don’t like spanking but for how hard she hit her sister no amount of talking to her would’ve made a difference. Usually just using a firm voice, not yelling, and deterring her does the trick.
