If someone ran up to your door and said they were being chased by someone looking to harm them and they needed a place to hide, would you let them in to your house?

All right, this scenario is an oldie, but it’s a goodie... posting due to recent Askreddit thread.

Changing it up a bit/adding new questions I saw on the thread so that it isn’t just a repeat of the old threads.

Someone runs up to your door and is banging on it and screaming, pleading for help. They say they are being chased and need to hide. They want to come into your house to seek refuge. Because of your adrenaline and surprise, you do not have a clear gut feeling on what to do or if they are telling the truth or not. You only have a little bit of time to decide. Do you let them in or not? If you don’t, what do you advise them to do or tell them to do next?

The reason I put option 3 is because in this scenario many always say if their kids were around they wouldn’t let the person in to protect them, so if your kids being absent from the situation means you would let them in, please select that instead of No.

If your kids weren’t around, say they were at school or something, would you be more willing to let them in?

Would your answer change depending on if they were male/female?

If you have a gated or fenced in backyard, would you let them hide back there if you wouldn’t let them in to your house?

Does imaging the roles as being reversed (you are the one that is running and trying to hide) change your answer at all?
