Would you stay friends?
So I met this guy on OK cupid. I'm just looking for friends right now which was stated on my profile. We hung out a couple times went bowling, played pool and I had fun. The other day was unusual. We talk constantly everyday but I didn't hear from him Saturday which was odd. He texts me Sunday saying he made a big mistake and was pulled over. I immediately thought he must of been drinking. So I didn't respond because I was busy working.
We ended up talking that night and I asked him was he drinking and driving and he admitted he was and got behind the wheel. He did hit something but it wasn't a person. He promised to never do it again and how he's a good person and he made a big mistake and he understands if I don't talk to him again. Thank God it wasn't a person but someone could have been seriously hurt. His court date is on the 30th and he has to get rides to work. Which I don't plan on giving. He's been a little distant since I talked to him yesterday. He would text back every chance he got and he would message me as he was leaving work. No I haven't text him at all since our conversation ended last. I'm not sure if I can be friends with someone that drinks and drive. He thinks it'll eventually turn into a relationship but that will never happen.... ever.
My cousin's friend and their cousin who I knew as well were killed on Christmas eve by a drunk driver. I've been thinking about it over and over and I know what I need to do. The thing is I do the Shipt shopping 7 days a week and he's a Meijer employee so I see him daily. I just don't want it to be awkward. Would you stay friends with someone who got behind the wheel drunk and promised never to do it again?
A part me wants to remain friends because I have a hard time letting people down but then the other part of me wants to part ways. How can I make this easier?
