Testing too early?

Question

Is it really a bad idea to test a couple days before a missed period? How common are there false positives and chemical pregnancies? The wait is so hard. But I don’t want unnecessary heartache.

I’ve never waited for my missed period 😅 got my bfp’s at 12dpo first pregnancy and 10dpo second pregnancy. Planning on testing this Friday but I don’t know when I ovulated this time

False positives are rare, almost nonexistent. What some consider “false positives” are actually evap lines from looking at them after the time frame. Very rarely is a test faulty and gives a false positive result.
Chemical pregnancies (or early miscarriages which occur around 5 weeks gestation) are unfortunately fairly common. It’s unknown exactly how many of all pregnancies end in miscarriage, but it’s estimated that all women will have at least one during their lifetime. Most of the time, women who have these early miscarriages don’t even know they were pregnant and just assume they had a late and heavy period.
It’s best to wait until your period is due before testing to give you an accurate result, because if you test too soon you may get a false negative - which is extremely common. Implantation can take up to 12 days past ovulation, and it can take 2-4 days after implantation for the hcg hormone to increase enough to be detected by a home pregnancy test, which is why many women don’t get a positive result until their period is due or late.
