Skip periods?

So I have been using a condom as my only method of birth control the entire time I have been sexually active. I started Tri-linya about a week ago. I have seen in a few places that you can skip periods? Is this safe? Healthy? Also any of you who take this bc pill please share what all side effects you have experienced
