Real fights about baby name with their S/O?

Me and my husband have actually had a serious fight on who gets to pick the name and why, and I just want to feel like I am not alone.

I don’t see why either of you would solely pick the name. It should be a joint effort made by the both of you to find a name you both love.

We talked about names and came to a consensus about the names. I know some people go back and forth on who names the baby but we’re in this together and I wanted him to love the name as much as me.

We had a discussion before we got married that I would take his last name, and our kids would take his last name, but I get final say on the baby’s first name. I absolutely want it to be a joint effort and both love the name but I get a tiny bit more pull and he knows it. I think that’s an extremely fair compromise, especially since changing my name was difficult for me to do.

🤦🏻‍♀️ girl I’m in same position. We have 2 year old named lyric Ariel now 38 weeks pregnant with our second I want to name her harmony for months my co workers and family have been calling her harmony. Turns out my husband been doing the same with his name London Mariah 🤷‍♀️

Oh yes, my husband and I have majorly different name tastes. With our first daughter I came up with probably 20-30 names that I would be good with. He said no to all of them and offered up “Ursula” as a possible name he liked. I said no. I would suggest a few more. Nope. Then he came up with “Barbara”. I said no. A month from Labor Day he came up with “Fiona” which I didn’t NOT like so we put it on the short list. I also added my favorite name “Kate”. When baby was born we had to make a decision so I was the one to go with “his” name which I absolutely love now bc it belongs to my beautiful daughter. We agreed that I would have final say on baby number 2 due in April... and guess what?! Her name is “Kate” and he’s 100% on board per our previous agreement.

I think a couple should agree on the name they give their child. That way they both like it and have nothing to argue about for the rest of their lives

Lol well, we did fight about it briefly, but it wasn't a "who got to pick the name". It was that his family had a name they prechose based on gender that his sister also planned on using. Took a week and an hour long conversation with his sister before he understood how futile that name would be to try and use. Took months before we got through to his parents on the new name selection.

Not really a "fight" but we had some trouble naming our firstborn -a girl. I would throw out a name and he wouldn't like it, then he would say one and I wouldn't like it. This went on my whole pregnancy. Finally when we got to the hospital to have her, I re-mentioned a name I loved from the list he had denied and he said 'That's it. That's her name!' We had previously already agreed on her middle name, just needed a first. I dont know what changed his mind. He swears I never mentioned her name before and he never denied it but it was literally the top name on my list! 
Luckily with this baby -a boy- we were on the same page from day one and the name we had chosen to present to the other just so happened to be the same name. So there was no issue in choosing his name.
