Full time job and baby, time for a puppy or no? Read below

My husband and I are thinking about getting a puppy 😍 a Frenchie! And the only thing stopping me, is will we have time for a dog in our lives? I work part time, 8-5 3 days a week..and my husband works 6-4:30 5-6 days a week. And we have an 8 month old. Do you guys have a puppy with similar situations? Would you get one or not? Why, and why not?

I would consider adopting an older dog who’s already trained 💖 my pittie came from the humane society and she was already house trained, knew commands (even shake) and she was 2 :)

House breaking and training a puppy with a baby would be way too difficult especially if you’re working. Puppies require a lot of attention to train properly. 
My SO and I did things the opposite. We got our puppy 6 months before our son was born so not only will they grow up together but we had time to train her.

No!!! Don’t do it haha! We got a puppy when my son was 7 months so they could grow up together.  I’m at SAHM and still Worst. Life. Choice. Ever!! I love the dog now that it’s been almost a year but holy hell we should have waited until my son was older for sure.  Haha.  Maybe an adult dog from a shelter would work out.

I think dogs are amazing. But consider all the work they bring. Specially puppies. They will pee and poo I. The house until properly trained, they will bite your stuff, so there will be a lot of cleaning and time that will need to be dedicated to the dog to train properly. 
Doable, I think yes! But think about if you really want that extra work.

In all honesty I would one not get a frenchie and two not get a puppy. It’s always recommended to stay with your puppy for the first couple of days (even a week) to make sure they are adjusted well in your home and then on top of that you need to train the puppy. Puppies also have smaller bladders so leaving them for a work day and not taking them out wouldn’t work but a slightly older dog could definitely hold it for the day. Puppies are just like human babies on the amount of care and attention they need so I guess a better question would be to ask yourself if you are ready for another baby.
And as for frenchies - I worked in a vet clinic for three years and I don’t think I have ever seen a breed with such awful health so commonly. Depending on their breeding their respiration can be awful - my lead vet described frenchie’s nasal system as “breathing through a straw”. Plus they are being bred to be smaller and more “compact” which can lead to spinal issues. The breed itself is just not healthy. And that’s another reason I would suggest adopting a slightly older dog because when you adopt, you are going to get a mutt and that mix of breeds leads to better health most of the time. Plus adopting is very much cheaper than buying a dog like a frenchie. But in the end it’s up to you and your family and this is just my advice. Good luck and I’m sure you’ll make the right decision!

I wouldn’t. Puppies are a lot of work especially house training. We luckily had jobs that we had enough time to train our 3 when they were puppies. But we also didn’t have our baby then. And just having the 3 adults with a baby is a hassle as it is and it gets frustrating. I’d wait to get a puppy or look into getting an older dog.

I have a newborn and 4 dogs. We’ve had the dogs for years but they’ve got a lot of life left so we weren’t gonna wait to have a baby. But if we had not had them before baby and I knew how difficult it would be at times, I’d wait to get dogs. One small one might not be so bad, but having doggie accidents near your baby’s living space is risky. Thankfully ours are past that stage.
