Well if your making a commitment to God then having sex doesn’t necessarily define the marriage. However if you never have sex that unhealthy and I don’t think a time limit is needed. If someone for example is sick with let’s say cancer and is dying but they get married because they love each other and under God that’s a promise. But they can’t have sex because the sick one is unable. I’d say they are under God’s eyes still married.

I look at it like this:
A covenant with God always involved blood being shed. First the blood of animals. Later on, the blood of Christ. Anyone who understands anatomy knows that usually, there is blood shed when a woman is penetrated for the first time (if it is a virgin getting married). If marriage is just a glimpse of the bigger picture of Christ and his bride (the church), then I think marriage should be consummated. It is that picture of the blood covenant we have with God through Christ, only it is between us and our spouse.

As as sacrament, there is a difference: ratum tantum vs ratum et consummatum.
You’re married whether you consummate it or not. However, a marriage that’s not consummated can be dissolved. If it’s consummated, then you are now one flesh and what God has joined together let not man put asunder. Meaning it is indissoluble.
