Would you use the company jet? Is it ethical?

So in my business and ethics class, the underlined passage was a topic of debate recently. It was interesting, many people said they didn’t think use of the company jet for a private trip was totally ethical, but if they were an executive and they could use it (ethical or not) they would. Wondering everyone’s opinion here. If you could use the company jet to take a personal trip, would you?

It’s not the use of the jet itself, it’s the classism that annoys me. Most people defending his use of the jet would be the first to advocate for, let’s say, a minimum wage deli employee being fired for eating a slice of ham without paying that was going to be thrown away.

Something that costs that much should be clearly worded into the contract. If it’s against policy it’s unethical, if it’s not it’s fine. 
I can’t ever imagine being in a position where this was a thing for me, but I’ve never heard of anyone having a problem with employees using a company car in their personal life.

I like a healthy separation of my work life and my home life, so I don’t see myself using something like that for personal use. It’s not the reputation I would want

Depends on the contract and agreement each person has. 
If it is part and package of a deal that was negotiated, then I have no problem with it. 
Its all about cost effectiveness. If the CEO is adding a value to a company through their skillset that out-ways the cost of trips in a private jet, in may be a great perk to bring in better high quality executives. 
I mean I don’t care that someone like Elon Musk would use a company jet for personal use because the guy has single handedly made the businesses he has into multi billion dollar companies. 
However if the companies are running at break even or a loss, and the Directors, executives, CEO’s, AOM’s etc are merely figure heads that do not add value. Then its a big problem and they should not be allowed to have that luxury.

I would imagine it goes against most corporate laws, constitutions and/or policies.

I would expect it was seen as just a perk of my job. Unless I was specifically told the jet is only for business use I’d probably use it. If I was told it was not, I wouldn’t. I ask the admin staff at my job to mail things for me, my bosses are aware and have no problem with it so I don’t think it’s wrong.
