Root canal at 17????

Question

So my little brother has braces and has had them for a good year and a half at this point. He recently started have nauseating tooth pain over the weekend, he was prescribed an antibiotic because they thought maybe he had an abscess tooth. Turns out he needs a root canal!?! Is this normal for a 17 year old? Has anyone had one done while having braces? What can expect from recovery!

Recovery is so fast. You don’t even know you had a root canal. Mine was 100% pain free. The shots hurt but that’s to be expected. He’s gotta beis his teeth twice a day and follow up regularly to avoid anymore in the future

Cavities during braces are so common because they are hard to keep clean and flossing every night can be hard. Those cavities can go deep into the nerve resulting in needing a root canal. It can happen to anyone and at any age. The root canal is easy but your mouth is open for a longer period of time. An anti inflammatory before and after the appointment with help with the jaw soreness. It’ll be fine. Just make sure to get the root canal because otherwise the infection will just come back after he is done with the prescription.

I had a root canal at 16. The only thing that hurts is the shots to numb you. Recovery is so easy. They are literally taking the roots out of your tooth. He will no longer have any feeling left in that tooth. The gum may be sore but that’s it

He’ll be fine in a day! At least thats how I was, if its a back tooth and he needs a crown on it maybe 2 days. If he doesnt floss well its totally possible, the decay might have progressed close enough to the nerve. When I had mine done I couldnt even touch the tooth without horrible pain! The procedure was the hardest bc I have a high tolerance for the numbing and they had to inject the nerve directly. As far as braces I’m not totally sure but I imagine it wouldnt be that different  since they go in the back to do it.

I had one in my teens as well. It will be fine. Nothing like tv portrays, was essentially pain free.
