Does this sound horrible?

My SO & I just found out we're expecting! This is our 3rd baby! But recently I asked him what names he likes? He response was "If we're having a boy we're  naming after my cousin Irving" (he passed away in 2009) but his cousin named her son after her brother plus I really don't like that name.. Not trying to sound rude but I wanted to name him after my grandfather that passed away if it was a boy. Should I fight with him over this?

Not sure why you would end it with "should I fight with him over this".... Simply communicate with him. It doesn't have to be an argument, talk it out with him and compromise. Hope it all works out.

Maybe you could compromise and use both? Use your grandfathers name as the first name and Irving as the middle?? Or maybe even use whatever Irving's middle name was as a middle name if you like it better

Say your not totally happy and suggest that you both come up with a list of suggestions that you can work through.

I'd be a little taken aback by the fact that he told you what you're naming him! You definitely have a say (the biggest say!) so he shouldn't just be informing you what you'll name him! It's something to have discussions about and decide together.
