Sleep train?

Question

Anyone sleep train a exclusively breast fed baby that refuses a pacifier? Something has to give. She’s a little over 5 months and has slept with me from day one. She wakes me up constantly during the night to pacify! She might wake up once to actually eat. I’m running on less than fumes. I need help!

Have you tried several kinds of pacifiers? My daughter will only take the avent natural ones that are kind of flattened.

You can ask the doctor if it’s okay to sleep train. My doctor wouldn’t approve us until our baby gained enough weight. My friends baby was approved at 4.5 months because he was gaining well. We used the Ferber method and it worked great. He only woke up once or twice to eat as opposed to 4-6 times a night to use me as a pacifier. Now he’s 8 months and finally sleeping through the night.

I know it's not reccomended hut we introduced a plush toy, a buddy just for bedtime for our little girl to cuddle. Now when she wakes at night and is not hungry she reaches for it and as long as it is near and she can pet it she is able to fall back asleep. We chose a stiffer bodied toy, nothing floppy or squishy to cause a suffocation risk if it gets too close to her face. Our daughter is breast fed, wont take a pacifier either, and she has been in her crib since 5 months in her own room just across the hall from us. She wakes up to eat 1-2 times a night. Bed at 7, eat at 12, awake at 7. A good bedtime routine of dinner, bath, snuggle and nurse, then into bed sleepy but awake is what works for us. Good luck!

Technically if you’re going to sleep train you should ditch the pacifier unless baby can put it back in on his own. You don’t want to use anything to help them fall asleep that will be different when they wake.

My son is 4 weeks and sleeps with us and is also EBF and refuses pacifiers. Ugh I think I will be in the same boat as you in a few months. The closest he’s come to taking a pacifier is the MAM ones, but most of the time will freak out if you try to give it to him and we’ve tried them all ways. 😫 He hates the avent ones and my daughter loved those. I guess it’s true all babies are different.

I’m in the same boat . She’s 4 months 😫 from what I’ve been reading the point of sleep training is to train them to learn how to self soothe! Even without the paci... bc if the use the paci to put themselves back to sleep they are dependent on it. I want to sleep train her soon but I know it’s gonna be horrible lol
