Baby was born at 38 weeks 4 days
She is one week old today, but I thought I’d share my birth experience.
I lost my mucus plug Sat 1/12 and was dilated to 2 cm. No contractions at all until around 3pm Tues 1/15 started as cramping around 15 mins apart. Throughout the night they got closer together about 5 to 7 mins apart all night and stronger but still not super painful but still got zero sleep. Woke up in the morning and on the way to the toilet felt a gush and liquid gushed a little onto the floor. Now it didn’t feel like I was peeing and I have never peed myself during this pregnancy, sat on the toilet after and urinated, it was yellow, and when I wiped up the floor it was clear. So thought for sure my water broke and called the husband. As I waited for him to get home I showered and gathered everything, still don’t know if I should have showered or not 🤷🏻♀️ we went to the hospital around 10 am and I got checked was still only a 2cm and she tested me and said that my water did not break. She was also very rude btw could tell she hated her job. At this point my contractions were getting to be very painful they monitored me for about an hour and my contractions were now 2 mins apart! She said since my water hadn’t broken and I hadn’t displayed anymore that I had to go home 😩 I wanted to cry I was in a lot of pain with practically no breaks. Got home around 1pm and my sister who is a nurse practitioner left work early and came by around 4pm after checking me she told me I should really go back the the hospital especially since my contractions were getting to the point I couldn’t speak and so close together. Got to the hospital at 5pm and the same lady 🙄 checked me this time I was 5cm and they reluctantly decided to keep me. Very quickly my pain got extremely bad and I asked for the epidural. I was feeling soo much pressure in my back door I kept asking to go potty. They gave me the epidural and it made my legs and hips tingly and partly numb but didn’t do much else, I was still moaning and writhing in pain with back to back contractions. It didn’t take long at all for me to become fully dilated, they checked me I was at 7cm and within a half hour they check me again I was at a 10. They had me do some practice pushes which I was apparently very good at but still had a little trouble because baby was face up. A few more “practice pushes” and baby was ready to come. This part made me very upset they had me get ready with me baby almost crowning and then call my midwife. Who is about a half hour away. At this point my body is pushing on its own with each contraction and I have no control. When they told me I had to fight the urge to push for a half hour I about lost it, I told them there was no way. My nurse told me I had to because she wasn’t filing out an incident report for having the baby without my doctor. Well I had no choice with each contraction my body was pushing on its own. My husband looked down at my who-ha as I’m screaming and I guess baby’s head was coming he tapped the nurse on the shoulder, she looked down, pressed the call button and called for help. Other nurse came in and I’m still pushing she’s yelling at me to hold on, she has to get her gloves on. Second her gloves are on baby practically flew out of me. When they put that baby on my chest I couldn’t believe it. Baby was born at 9:46pm and very quick birth. 8lbs 1oz 20.5 inches and the most beautiful baby girl I’ve ever seen. She looks like her daddy’s twin. Little miss Lavender Jolene 🎀
