Elective Ultrasounds?

Question

A coworker I trust has a pregnant daughter, and they did an elective gender reveal ultrasound. The place is highly rated, they have all of their people certified, and it has 219 reviews and all of them are 5 stars. 
Still, I keep reading that it could be unsafe for various reasons. 
I wanted to go to my regular 20 week appointment but go for an elective ultrasound the following week when my mom is able to fly down. 
Has anyone else done anything like this? Any advice?

Did it with both my kids. My office will only do one ultrasound and it’s at 20 weeks. I can’t wait that long to see my kid. And it’s just as safe as other ultrasounds. Ultrasounds use sound waves to view inside the body so they are perfectly safe no matter the number you have.

I say do it! I had one last week to find out gender early. I have my 20 week ultrasound in 4 weeks and then I plan on paying out of pocket (again) to get a private 4D ultrasound before my girl is here.

I just had an ultrasound at my 12 week appt but my nerves were getting the best of me so I had another via private scan 14.5 weeks. I’d say as long you’re not getting them every week, that it is safe. I’m hesitant to buy a Doppler since I’d be tempted to use it often which comes with risks. As with everything in life: moderation. I’d say see your sweet babe.

Ive done elective ultrasounds with this baby and my last. I see midwives and it was the only ultrasounds i got during pregnancy. I think doctors recommend againat them because its a service that kinda "steps on their toes" if you will.
