Fall asleep on his own ..

I know every child is different, I was jus wondering... about when will babies jus fall asleep without shushing, rocking, feeding? My baby is 11 weeks old, he’ll easily fall asleep if I swaddle and rock him... but if I see he’s tired and lay him down, he’ll wake right up and refuse to go to sleep.... have I held him too much (as they say?), and now I’ll have a hard time putting him to sleep?
