Is this thrush?

Question

My toddler has been touching his mouth a lot since yesterday and got a fever of 99.5. Now I noticed a white tongue. Does it look like thrush ? And how is it treated ?

Definitely looks like thrush. A doctor will usually prescribe an antibiotic. I'm a hygienist and I've seen so many people on antibiotics that actually end up getting thrush as a side effect... antibiotics kill the good and bad bacteria thus causing the yeasty infection to form. Anyways, I'm just a super weirdo and don't like to take antibiotics unless absolutely necessary. So, when my daughter got it as an itty bitty baby I went to the health food store and got a plain organic yogurt with live active cultures. Since she was so little I literally put a teeny amount on my finger and rubbed it in her mouth a few times a day. It was gone in two days. You could obviously just have you kid eat it like normal. I mean, it's yogurt....it's not going to hurt regardless. It's worth a try in my opinion. And definitely brush his tongue when you brush his teeth. Change the toothbrush out when it's all gone. And until it's gone just clean the toothbrush with a little peroxide after you use it so you aren't reinfecting his mouth every time.

Looks like thrush. A doctor will prescribe an anti-fungal. Both of my kids got it when they were babies and got diflucan, it’s the same thing they would prescribe if you were to get a yeast infection.
