Spotting before period- how to track ovulation

I have a weird period. Sometimes it will be a couple days of spotting and then it kicks in. Sometimes I spot for a few days then it disappears for a couple days then i get my period.

I am curious if others have a similar period and how you track it on your calendar to find your ovulation day.
