That I need genetic counseling wtf is that all about ?? No one in my family or his has birth defects or has problems why is this damn doctor being a bitch!!! Really ?? Why is she being so rude for me getting pregnant at 43 I don’t understand I feel like crying and crawling up with her stupid remarks like I should be thinking about be more a grandmother than being a new mom omfg I just wanted to punch her what is her problem

Because when you’re over 35 your chances of your baby having a genetic disorder skyrockets. They’re not judging your they’re laying out facts.

If she is making cracks about age and being a grandmother, u need a new dr. And you need to make a complaint. The genetics thing is just her being thorough, because that is reality that we face as older moms. However, if she is interjecting her own personal rude remarks, that is uncalled for and should be addressed. Sorry u have to deal with that,

I got to see a chart that showed the chance of getting pregnant and carrying full term by age and was amazed how much it drops after 35. At age 40 I was given a 5% chance and at age 42 it is 1% - there is an article on the glow Fertility forum that had this too. So the doctor is just trying to prepare you and keep you informed.

Chances get higher after 35. However they do push it a little too much. Many friends of mine had children with severe abnormalities in their 20’s. 
shake it off and don’t let it get you. Had my twin boys at 40 and this is our first month trying again. I will be 42 in May

We got pregnant at 40 but lost him to trisomy 18 Edwards syndrome. We wanted to carry him for as long as we can but unfortunately we found out from ultrasound his insides were on his outsides and it’s un-saveable. We said our goodbyes. Our genetic counselling helped us understand our risks for any future pregnancies and make sure we get tested immediately when we get pregnant again so that they can carry out any necessary interventions to keep the pregnancy and little bean, if needed. Unfortunately we are still waiting to get pregnant. They also tested the baby and us to make sure my partner and I do not carry the gene. Genetic counselling is not a bad thing. Yes. It happens more with mom over 35 because of older eggs. But I know young moms unfortunately faces that too. Your doctor just being careful and making sure all is well and they can intervene if needed. I love my doctor to pieces. We play ultimate frisbee together. I’m 42, I am a firefighter, race ultra marathons, mountain bike and am extremely healthy and active. I don’t feel 42. I can outrun and out lift most 20 year old. BUT. Her and I both know my eggs have been around for 42 years. They are old ☹️

I had my son at 35 so that’s standard procedure at our age! It’s okay. It’s standard procedure since 35 and over run a risk of higher birth defects. Just breathe and enjoy your pregnancy!! 😊

I just wanted to offer my perspective.  They offered a genetic counselor when I was 40 and pregnant with my son.  It was insightful and she went over genetic conditions that occur with age but also ones that are inherited.  For example fragile x, sickle cell disease or cystic fibrosis. Let's face it the genetic counselor is more knowledgeable than your doctor.  She was also better able to explain the tests offered and what the costs of these tests would be.  Some tests are a blood test while others are more invasive.  Ultimately, it's your decision to see the counselor and have testing done.  Your doctor can't force you.  Hopefully, your doctor wasn't being rude and just offering you resources.   I had to pay for the genetic counselor but the testing was covered by insurance.  On the other hand, my husband thought the genetic counseling was redundant, as I had been tested for some genetic conditions during my work with a fertility doctor.   Congrats on your pregnancy!!

I understand. I had a dr who was more concerned about preparing me for my miscarriage  that would happen because of my age. She only went on 5th o talk about all the testing I should subject my baby to because it would as surely be deformed if I did manage to carry to full term. I dont understand people sometimes. If you are choosing to have as baby at this time some encouragement  would be nice. Life is risky! Leave it at that. Congratulations!!!!!!! Enjoy growing a healthy awesome baby.

Maybe I’m just be over dramatic if they tell me my baby has a defect it will be hard to swallow but god is by my side all I did was pray for this pregnancy my husband is younger 30 I am 43 he has no kids I have 2 very healthy kids that hardly got sick I won’t be greedy but did tell him I won’t have anymore this baby is already loved by him and his whole family I am about 8 weeks prego got married last Saturday I am already showing and proud of my future angel to me or it’s a girl or twins
