Unexpected C-Section!
Hi everyone! This group helped me so much and I enjoyed reading everyone’s birth stories, so now it’s time to share mine! It’s long but cute pics at the end. Thanks for reading, everyone!
My doc had scheduled my induction for this coming Tuesday 1/29 at 39w2d. My husband’s work started his paternity leave yesterday 1/23 and we were thinking how perfect so we’d have time to really deep clean one last time and spend time together. Oh we were so wrong!
My husband works nights and works 10pm-8am. Well, yesterday I got up to go to the bathroom at 7am and when I laid back down I felt a gush. I got up, peed again and laid back down and had a couple more gushes. At that point I didn’t have any contractions but I knew my water had ruptured. My poor husband comes home and I told him that I’m leaking. He panics a bit and I told him to eat and go to bed and I’d wake him up later. I took a nice long bath, wash and dried my hair, and then took a nap for a couple hours with our pups.
I finally called my doc and went in to get tested. Y’all, this check was like an SNL or Friend’s skit 😂 They told me to take my bottoms off and push the button when I was ready. My leggings got stuck around my ankles and every time I was trying a maneuver to reach my ankle, I was gushing all over the floor and into my socks! All I could keep saying was “Shit! Shit! Shit!” I was grabbing tissues to wipe up the floor but every time I bent over, more came out! It was hysterical. My nurse heard me and ended up asking through the door if I was okay. 😂 Basically, no check required and I was going straight to labor and delivery.
I called my husband and told him to take his time because I was only dilated 1cm and 60%. Poor guy later admitted he stress ate hostess cupcakes and oatmeal cream pies instead of sleeping 🙄😂 He gets all our stuff together and our dogs settled and got to the hospital. They started my pitocin and I wasn’t feeling any of my contractions until I hit a 3 or 4. Then it was all back labor. AWFUL! I breathed through most of it fine but had to wait on an epidural due to someone having a section. By the time he got to me I was a 5 and I had gone from a 1-5 within a couple hours maybe. Pretty fast for a first time mom. The epidural was heaven and I finally relaxed.
I had my epidural for a couple more hours and they kept losing the baby or my contractions on the monitor and decide to do the internal ones to keep track. The doc comes in to put them in and asks what I was just checked at an hour ago and she says a 4 or 5. Her eyes got big — 9 1/5! Being able to relax made me dilate so fast! I was ready to push in 15-30 minutes but just had to wait on my doc.
My doc gets there and my baby is at station 0 so pretty high. Ladies, I pushed for 3 HOURS trying to get my girl out. I got her all the way down pretty quick but she turned sideways and sunny side so I had to start pushing on my sides so we could try to turn her. Eventually, we accept that she’s not going to turn the right way and she gets STUCK in my pelvis because my pelvis is just too narrow for her to pass through even with my docs guidance. Not happening.
It’s now 11 pm and I’ve been in the hospital 12 hours total and we are prepping for a c section. No way around it and I’m so frustrated because if my pelvis hadn’t been so narrow then we would have had her hours earlier. We get prepped and in the OR by 1am. My team in there was fantastic. My husband kept me calm and we just chatted the entire time to keep my mind elsewhere. My dad was the pediatrician on call so he was watching from the other side of the glass giving us a thumbs up for comfort and ready to meet his first grand baby.
She came out screaming and looking like such an ugly, pissed off, little demonic grape 😂😂😂 I had no complications and she didn’t need any help either once she came out. We are so over the moon and still in shock with what my body had to do. I didn’t think I could be more in love with my husband, but his support through the whole thing made me love him infinitely more and then seeing him fall in love with our daughter made my heart poop it’s pants. So amazing.
I’m already suffering from pregnancy amnesia because I’m ready for another baby in about 2 years 🤷🏼♀️ Introducing our baby girl, weighing 7 lbs 8 oz and 20.5 inches long.
