Is this what women want?!
So I was reading my news this morning and ran across this article. Made me think of the group and how some of us will be at home with our babies soon. I don’t see this picture as a triumph in the least and in all honesty it pissed me off. What woman wants to work and take care of her newborn? What mother wants to drag her kid to work with her newborn on her chest as she answers calls and files papers? This picture looks like it’s all kinds of stress. Instead of having women bring their infants to work why not have better policies were we can take care of our children at home for longer?
I’m sure a majority of us are on maternity leave or about to start it soon and it’s so unfortunate that we live in the type of culture that does not support nor promote rest/relaxation/bonding with your babies after pregnancy. This picture is a huge fail that falls into the whole narrative of women being able to “do it all” right after giving birth to our babies. Due to my cultural beliefs and where my family is from we get a minimum of 40 days where the new mom is catered to. That means meals, baths, massages, tummy wrapping, aromatherapy, emotional healing etc. Usually it’s older women who help you during this phase be that your mother or MIL.
It’s not easy being a mom in America. We’re the least developed in this aspect.
