My Birth Story

Natalie Rose

Tuesday night (the 8th) I was 39+3. It was a normal night no pain or anything. Just

watched tv, ate some ice cream, took a shower and around 830 I went to bed— woke up at 945 To my water breaking and streaming down my leg and I ran to the bathroom. Called My husband as he was at work and he came straight home. Doctor told me not to come to hospital til contractions began or til around 2am. My husband got home I told him we had to wait— so he showered and fell asleep. I couldn’t sleep I was so anxious and nervous. I just wanted contractions to start to just get started. So Maybe around 1130ish started with just some consistent tightening low in my abdomen nothing painful just like period cramps but knew it was the start of something. So had that every 10-15 min for like 2 hours. So around 1 I said let’s just start heading there. So got to hospital 130, started to feel some bigger contractions but nothing bad I just knew it was the start of labor. They were far apart tho and manageable. Got an epidural at like 345am at that point they were around 6min apart but still tolerable nothing too intense. I was only 3cm when I got to hospital. So we rested after epidural from like 4-7. At 7am they gave me the pitocin but from 4-7 I was laying on my left side after epidural. She switched me to my right at 7. About 10 min or so later a nurse came running in saying baby was in distress and his heart rate was down to low 50s. She had to give me oxygen and switch me back to my left side and I was 7cm at that point. It was a 6 minute episode of the baby being in distress. They put the peanut between my legs to expand and also to change his position bc he was facing sideways. And they put a clamp on his head to monitor his heart internally. Then within like the next hour or so I felt so much pressure down below he was def dropping. So I called the nurse they checked me again and he said I was fully dilated but I had to wait for the doctor to get there to deliver My gyno delivering was absolutely amazing — it was so calm we like talked between the pushes and contractions. I pushed for 40 minutes and next thing I know my gyno is telling me to focus (I had a cold rag on my head bc I developed a fever) and my husband is putting sterile gloves on and as soon as the baby crowned she let my husband grab The baby’s shoulders and pull him out and onto my chest. My eyes streaming of tears it was just such an experience. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect laboring baby
