My husband and I first started having sex 2.5 years into our relationship. He was my first and only. In hindsight, I wish I had made him wear condoms because I ended up not being able to be on birth control later due to terrible side effects, including chronic yeast infections, and we ended up having to use them as our sole form of protection anyway. As far as pregnancy is concerned, birth control is very effective. However, if pregnancy isn’t something you’re willing to take even the slight risk of, but you still want to have sex, then use condoms as well as birth control. Also, condoms are the only way to protect against STIs. Even if you’re in a relationship you should still think about your sexual health and get tested regularly.
