No ultrasound until 20 weeks?

So I had my nuchal a few weeks ago (currently 15 weeks) and I wanted to have another ultrasound at 16 weeks to find out the sex. My doctor said that a "harmony" test won't be covered by my insurance because I'm not a "high risk" patient. I'm REALLY anxious to find out the sex and don't want to wait another month (crazy  preggo lady talk). Is there any way around this insurance Bologna?

I am having the same fight with my dr.s office except my insurance will cover it but there policy is no ultrasound til 20 weeks. I can't even schedule it they won't let me. It pisses me off that insurance will cover it but a bullshit policy they won't do it

Anything your insurance won't cover, you have the option to pay for. If it's that important to you, why not just pay?  (My doc could determine sex during my NT scan at 12 weeks). By the one you do the research and schedule and pay for the unnecessary scan, your 20-week appointment will be here!

You can always go to an Ultrasound Clinic. They do them for like $60-70. If you have an upcoming US for like Down Syndrome or something you can always ask them to take a peak and if she's/ he's as nice as mine was she didn't mind at all, but it had to be a vaginal view for a close confirmation. I found out at 13 weeks.

Even without high risk, ours (verifi test, same deal) was a few hundred dollars. And more importantly to us told us about downs and trisomy. So...get the cpt code from harmony...call your insurance, and don't ask if it's covered or not, ask what the estimate is. They should be able to tell you. Then it's your call.

Keep in mind the test usually takes 7-10 days to get answers. Mine took 14, which was an oddity. So...how much is a few weeks faster worth to you?

We couldn't wait till the 20 week scan so we went to an ultrasound clinic at 16 weeks and found out we are having a girl!!

It depends on your clinic and dr. I will be having my gender.ultrasound.done on Friday and I will be 18 weeks.

Honestly you're lucky to get the NT covered. I'd just try to be patient! It's SO much more accurate at 20 weeks anyway.

Same here. They did the nt scan with US at 12 weeks,  but won't do another US until 20 weeks. They said I might be able to push it to 19 weeks, so I am hoping that is the case!

No😒 were paying 75 dollars to find out at 15 weeks.  To me it's worth the money
