Ovulation test question

This is my second month off of the pill after being on it for three years. I've had my first period since, and that started on Aug 20...but it was a week late. I'm 12 days into this cycle and took ovulation tests the last two days with my second urination each day. There was a line that was the same color as the control line, but not as thick. It started off as dark but then faded out. I wish I would have taken a photo, but that sounds like it's negative, doesn't it? Should the test line be as thick as the control?
